About Shishu Mandir.

Central to our activities is our school, run as a free English-medium school. We believe that education can bring change. But for our children to truly benefit from it, we have worked to ensure that they have access to education beyond school, until they are employable. It is equally important for the families of these children to recognise the importance of education. Several of our programmes have arisen from the real need to support entire families and the wider community to enable a collective progression to a life of dignity. All our programmes are offered free of cost to the children and the community.

Where we work.

Our area of work spans 20 villages in the KR Puram neighbourhood in Bangalore East. The population is close to 100,000 with about 60 percent living below the poverty line (defined as an income of Rs 1,200 per person per month). As of 2025, we are supporting 4,500 families and 10,278 government school children through one of our various programmes.

Our Team

How we are run.

Shishu Mandir is run entirely on donations from individual donors and corporate sponsors. We are governed by the elected members of the society in India. We also receive support as voluntary services from individuals and corporates.

Celebrating Stella Ma'am, more than a teacher

When Stella Mary joined Shishu Mandir in 2002, she came with five years of teaching experience and modest expectations. Twenty-three years later, she has become an indispensable pillar of our institution, transforming from a classroom teacher to our Extra-Curricular Coordinator, librarian, and mentor to hundreds of students.
